Advancing the Science of the Human-Canine Bond.
The British Institute of Canine Science is a small, British -based research body dedicated to understanding the biological and psychological complexities of our dogs. By bridging the gap between academic rigour and practical application, we provide evidence-based insights that empower scientists, professional trainers, and dedicated owners alike.
Alongside this we wanted to make academic research more accessible to the normal dog owner. We understand that academic research can be extremely difficult to understand and follow so we break down and simplify studies every week for our members.
Why?
We founded the British Institute of Canine Science to ensure that robust and clear studies were being performed alongside our four legged friends. As with all industries, academia can be restricted by funding, institutional restraints and politics within the industry. This is why we decided to step away from external organisations and fund our efforts ourselves with your help, leaving us free to conduct the research that is so desperately needed to further our understanding of the canine mind.
Upcoming Research Projects
Canis Familiaris Ethogram
Investigation and analysis of canine movement and behaviour. There are extensive ethograms of mice, elephants and many more but an extensive domestic canine ethogram is yet to be created.
The Great Pillar Dogs
Exploration into the greatest dogs throughout history of multiple disciplines. We aim to discover which dogs were the nmost prominent and what effect high level training has on offspring consistency.
Training Efficacy and Stress Response
A thorough study exploring an array of canine training methods, their efficacy in changing behaviour and the stress responses exhibited by dogs, ensuring we are constantly chasing the most ethical path possible.
